Whether you're moving across town or across the country, moving can be a big hassle. That's why it pays to be organized and plan for a smooth transition into your new life. Today we're running through3 steps that you can take to help make things as smooth as possible.
Step 1. Ask yourself, "What is different about my new place?" If you're a first time home buyer for example, you may find you haven't had to take care of a yard before. If you're moving out of your parents house perhaps you have never paid hydro bills before. Whatever the case may be, research these things so you understand what you are getting yourself into.
Step 2. Ask yourself, "what can stay the same?" The idea of starting over can be appealing, but when you're making a big change like moving, it is helpful to focus on the big stuff. Fight the urge to throw out all your furniture and start again, you can do this gradually after you've adjusted to your new life. If you are moving relatively close to where you lived before, you may find you can keep your family doctor, school or favourite grocery store.
Step 3. Take help from people! Independence is great but there's no shame in having a friend or family member help you move in, look after your pets or kids while you're getting settled into your new life.
